Meet at the pedestrian underpass at the north end of Barton Road, Oxford. This is just before Barton Road becomes Barton Lane which runs alongside the Northern by-pass. There is a spur off this road, also called Barton Road which services some flats. There is roadside parking here. Firm path walking skirting Barton estate to Wick farm then fieldpaths to beyond crematorium on Bayswater Road. Returning via path to walk alongside Bayswater Brook behind the Mosaics development, crossing Northern bypass then through St. Dunstan’s Park, from there pavement walking to start. This may be the last time this walk can take place in open countryside as the whole of this greenbelt area is earmarked for housing development. Bring a warm drink for en-route break. Dogs on leads. Light controlled pedestrian crossing of the Northern by-pass. No 8 bus to Barton stops at Wick Close on the Barton side of the underpass. London Road is well serviced with buses.
