Annual outing, to Newbury. Starting from Newbury Wharf. Meet near the mini-roundabout between the car parks on Wharf Road on the south side of Wharf Road Bridge.
The walk takes us along the Kennet and Avon Canal with its characterful buildings and swing bridge. We pass the Lady Well, cross the River Lambourne and picnic in the ruins of Donnington Castle. We return to our starting point after a visit to the magnificent Shaw House, a fine example of Elizabethan architecture. Free admission. There will be time to visit the West Berkshire museum and enjoy looking around the town.
