OxClean Campaign

A message from the Chairman

I am sure that members of the Society will be aware of the annual litter picking campaign in the City organised by OxClean, an initiative of the Oxford Civic Society. In 2016 it takes place on March 4th to 6th. There is also a national campaign in 2016 called ‘Clean for the Queen’ in celebration of Her Majesty’s 90th birthday - www.cleanforthequeen.co.uk. Your Committee wishes to encourage its members to participate in the local campaign. Details of OxClean’s 2016 programme can be found on its website www.oxclean.org.uk. Some members may wish to join working parties who will be operating in different parts of the City. Another opportunity will be to clear litter from any footpaths in a member’s own local area. This approach may be relevant to Parish Path Wardens who are likely to be aware of any local grot spots in paths in their parish.

Litter In the parish of Kennington, where I am the PPW, I regularly walk the Thames Trail from the ring-road flyover near Iffley to Sandford Lock, collecting litter - mainly cans, plastic bottles, crisp packets and assorted paper. By the time I reach Sandford lock, the large refuse sack is full. The lock-keeper at Sandford kindly takes in the bag and disposes of it with his rubbish. I know that some members also undertake litter clearing in their home areas.
