We begin with a short stroll up the valley to the attractive village of Hambleden before making our way to the banks of the Thames, which we follow to Henley, where we cross the river. Our route then ascends the wooded slopes of Remenham, eventually returning to the Thames and re-crossing at the impressive Hambleden Weir. Bring refreshment for en-route break and picnic. Meet at Wantage Manor Road Memorial car park, Manor Road on the A 338 (free). A circular walk from the book ‘Milestones to Millstones’ by Elaine Steane, with many interesting features. From Manor Road we pass the Market Square, King Alfred’s Statue and Wessex Flour Mill, a working mill, then walk to the spring-line villages of Letcombe Regis and Letcombe Basset and climb to the Ridgeway, returning via Letcombe Regis.
